Help Animal Place while you shop!
The wonderful people at Animal Place have found a new way for you to support their work: The SHARES Card. SHARES stands for Supporting Humanities, Arts, Recreation, Education and Sports. They raise millions a year for various charities and now Animal Place is on board!
Get a card for FREE and every time you swipe it at Save Mart, S-Mart, FoodMaxx, or Lucky Supermarkets, a portion of your purchase goes to Animal Place. It’s available in California and northern Nevada (that’s where the stores are located). You can get a card by signing up here: http://animalplace.org/shares-card
Here are links to the stores in the Bay Area:
FoodMaxx (you’ll have to type in your zip, but there’s one in Oakland.)
In other news, meet Stanley! A recent Animal Place rescue and my new crush. Look, he’s trying to make an angry face! I know you ain’t angry, Stanley! Silly baby.

This fact hasn’t stopped other states and cities from rewarding Apple and its brethren with similarly sweet deals. In 2010, the North Carolina Legislature debated for less than a minute before giving Apple a $46 million tax break to construct a data center in the town of Maiden, which itself agreed to cut Apple’s would-be property taxes in half, and slash local taxes on its assets by 85 percent—all for creating 50 jobs, none of them set aside for locals.
How the high-flying tech company just nabbed the largest corporate tax exemption in the state’s history.

You guys! The ice cream shop formerly know as Atomic #7 in Henderson, Nevada is trying to relocate to a larger space so it can reopen as A la Mode - but they need our help to do it! Currently they’re tying to raise at least $8,000 on Kickstarter to buy bigger and better equipment with which to make bigger and better vegan and gluten-free sweets: cakes, cupcakes, cookies - and ice cream, of course! Even homemade vegan waffle cones, caramel sauce, and hot fudge! Omnomnom!
Better yet, everyone pledging $5 or more gets a prize - everything from a bumper sticker to caramel sauce, hot fudge, and cake mixes, all nestled in a cute lil’ A la Mode tote. Megabucks donors even get an invite to the grand re-opening - FANCY! If you’ve got even just a few bucks to spare, please consider tossing it A la Mode’s way. You will make my lesser half* very, very happy.
And if you have any cash left, this vegan soul food place in Harlem looks pretty sweet too. MAC & CHEESE!
* I’m awful, I know.
